Conventions I have noticed from analysing these 3 different film reviews are:-
-The title of the film is always in bold
- There is always a picture from the film
- The picture is next to the film review
- The film review text is usually in a box format/article format
- The film review include a star rating, details such as producer/ director and the running time of the film or the classification
- The review has a verdict these verdicts will be different depending on the industry such as sight and sound their film review verdicts will be very professional and literate whereas total film is aimed more at teenagers and their verdicts are jokey
- Good and bad points
These film reviews are structured quite simillary for instance the main body of the written codes are in collums which are always more than 2, a visal code is also placed to one side of the written codes the size of the visual code and the placement varies from magazine. For instance Sight and Sound have a smaller, thinner rectangled shaped visual code this is because they written code is more important to their audience as that is where the majority of the interest lies. On the other hand Total Film have a large sqaure pictures which takes up the majority of the film review as their review is written fairly basically the visual code is what is going to bring the audience into reading the review.
Overall the different styles depend on the target audience of the film review for instance Sight and Sound has more text and less of a picture as the text is what the audience are most interested in. The way Sight and Sound is written is very knowledgeable and professional and these type of people will want to read these film reviews as it is written in their style.
Whereas Total Film includes jokes and references such as 'Twihearts' which are twilight film lovers and this industry expect their readers to understand this reference. The bulk of their film reviews are comments against the film which did not work and what did work but turning it into a joke. Their film reviews are based for easy ready and the picture takes up a lot of space and colour.
Here is my design for my film review this has developed from my research and analysing of film reviews I have also annotated it with my thoughts.
